I do not usually leave scathing reviews and I will not begin today. I went to retention nails on a Saturday and it was reasonably busy inside. I did not make an appointment so I had no issue at all with waiting my turn. I sat at the front for 20 minutes before I was led back to a table and told me someone would be right with me. During this time no one asked me if I wanted something to drink, came to greet me nor assessed what would need to be done with my nails. I had dip powder on and would need to have them soaked off- a rather simple thing to begin to address. I sat in the chair ignored for about 35-40 minutes before the owner came over to me and asked what am I getting. There was no greeting nor niceties on her end when this was asked- once I informed her of what I wanted she walked away. I sat in the chair for another 20 minutes before a new customer arrived, was immediately seated, given a drink and began her service. I opted to leave at this point. I want to stress that I do not know if this other customer was a walk in like myself or had an appointment but the lack of communication and acknowledgement was unacceptable. I am a patient person and typically do not mind waiting but being overlooked as a customer is not an experience Id recommend. I was able to go to another salon 5 minutes away. Clean, excellent service, attentive, and they did an amazing job! Do with this information what you will, but I urge you not to settle for their poor service.

II was super excited about my first experience here. Well, that was extremely short lived. $52 wasted.
I came here this past Thursday during my lunch break at 2pm. I sat with Michelle, who is extremely fast and slightly pushy to get things done. I was in and out in 30 minutes. At first I actually liked my nails - I got a Christmas design that was Dark green with gold glitter and then two gold snowflakes on two nails.
On Saturday, one thumb chipped in the afternoon. On Saturday night, the other thumb chipped. Today (Sunday) both thumbs raised and literally peeled off like string cheese.
In my 30 years of getting my nails done, nothing like this has ever happened. And of course, they are closed on Sunday and I'm leaving out of state this whole week for the holiday so I'm going to have to find another salon in NYC and pay for them to fix this botched job. Beyond frustrating.
I take my initial sentiment back - I will not be returning here.

Went to get my Gel X nails removed. I had been growing my natural nails for 3 months now. For the nail tech to not know how to remove without damaging my nails. Felt a little aggressive had to cut them down and rip them off with another nail tip. I asked if she knew how to do gel x. Said yes. If you know about gel x. You would know to file and soak off. No care for the natural nail. She would also ask another nail tech on what to use. Felt rushed and was $80 for short gel x nails that were simple and only painted pink. Pedicure was amazing! By another nail tech btw. Checked out and was ringed out. $143 total. Owner I’m guessing intervened. Said it was $10 more and had me pay the 11 with the credit card fee. Scolded the front desk person about asking her and never apologized for the inconvenience and having to add yet another credit card fee. Thought that was unprofessional.

I have been going to Retention Nails since it opened. I love this salon. Honestly, it’s the best salon in Charlotte. Highly skilled nail techs, wonderfully friendly people and a hands-on, attentive owner in Michelle. Trust me, customer care is important here. I lived right around the corner when it opened, I’ve moved to Mint Hill since, but I still come here! I always get Tap gel and it lasts for 3 weeks or more!

Alex is the best! He made my nails look just like the photo I showed him & they lasted 4 weeks! I’m headed there tomorrow for a new set. Can’t wait to go back! The environment is very relaxing and all the techs are very nice! I recommend to bring cash for a tip to show your appreciation at all their hard work
